It is okay if you are doubtful, hesitant, nervous, or ashamed. Those are perfect places to start.

“At seventeen, I started to starve myself-
I thought that love was a kind of emptiness.
And at least I understood then, the hunger I felt, and I didn’t have to call it loneliness.
We all have a hunger.
We all have a hunger.
We all have a hunger.
We all have a hunger.”
Hunger, song by Florence & the Machine, 2018
Our food, bodies, and eating behaviors are inherently relational, social, cultural, and emotional. We learn “rules” about what to eat or not eat when we’re sitting around the family dinner table. We hear comments about bodies from our parents and friends. We develop how, what, when, where we eat or don’t eat through the impact of millions of both subtle and overt “social signals” we receive over our lifetimes.
Unfortunately, for many of us, the messages we received created stress, trauma, and anxiety in our relationship to food, our bodies, and eating.
I offer treatment for disordered eating that is aligned with Health at Every Size (HAES) principles, against diet culture, and respectful of the inherent worthiness and wisdom of all bodies.
Radically Open Dialectical Behavior Therapy (RO DBT) is an evidence based, research-supported therapy that restores your relationship to food and your body to a state of embodied safety, genuine connection, and calm– how it was always supposed to be. Maybe right now that experience feels unimaginable, and yet, it is possible for you with the right support.
In RO DBT you will learn a variety of useful approaches such as self-inquiry, skills to reconnect with your sense of safety, strategies for understanding the function of your behaviors, exercises to shift your emotional experience, and others. You will both come to understand what is maintaining your disordered eating, and gain the ability to make changes to your behaviors that align with your values.
